AUTHOR OF UPRISING! HOW WISCONSIN RENEWED THE POLITICS OF PROTEST FROM MADISON TO WALL STREET
This week on TALK! with AUDREY: My guest is JOHN NICHOLS. On Friday, February 11, 2011, newly elected Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker proposed a so-called budget repair bill that attempted to take collective bargaining rights away from state, county, and municipal employees, as well as teachers. On Monday, February 14, 2011, the people of Wisconsin responded. In UPRISING: How Wisconsin Renewed the Politics of Protest from Madison to Wall Street, journalist and Wisconsin-native John Nichols details the protest movement that began one cold night in Madison and took the nation by storm, becoming the most sustained mass protest in recent American history. This was more than an attack on labor rights and unions; it was an attack on democracy and social justice.
