The public face of breast cancer has mainly been focused on survivorship and early detection, with little attention given to the women living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC), the most advanced stage of the disease that has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. Through the efforts of breast cancer advocates nationwide, United States Congress passed a national proclamation of October 13th as National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. October 13th symbolizes a call to action to give those living with advanced disease a greater voice and visibility in the breast cancer community.
